Dark Gate

Location: Approximately twelve miles southwest of Westburn, nestled near the opening of the Passage of Slerotin.

Significance: Dark Gate is a relatively new frontier town that sprung up rapidly following the rediscovery of the Passage of Slerotin. Its primary function is to serve the burgeoning trade and flow of adventurers passing through the tunnel to and from the Sea of Dust.

Character: As a frontier settlement, Dark Gate is likely a rough-and-tumble place. Expect a transient population of merchants, guides, mercenaries, prospectors, and those seeking their fortune in the lands beyond the Sea of Dust. Law might be somewhat loose, and opportunities for both profit and peril would be abundant. It’s a place where different cultures and motivations collide.

Likely Features: You might find numerous trading posts, hastily constructed inns and taverns, outfitters selling supplies for desert travel, temples or shrines catering to various deities favored by travelers and adventurers, and perhaps a small contingent of local militia or guards trying to maintain order. The architecture would likely be functional and utilitarian, built quickly to accommodate the growing population.
